Job Summary


Nisga’a Valley Health Authority’s Home and Community Care Program will deliver programs in accordance with home care program deliverables. The programs will be delivered by qualified individuals on a fulltime basis.  The certified Home Care Nurse Assistant for Nisga’a Valley Health authority will be assigned to any one of the four NVHA Clinics. 


Roles and Responsibilities


The successful applicant will perform delegated homecare procedures and client care duties under the supervision of the Nurse Manager 2 or designate.   Primary goals of the program are to promote: while respecting client rights and the confidentiality of client information.

  1. Providing support and follow-up for compliance to treatment (example: deliver prepared medications; may assist in transportation for client who requires  assessment at one of the four NVHA clinics; ordering, cleaning and delivery of home care supplies) assists in maintaining proper records
  2. Assists the health care professional(s) in home modification that will support safe care and healthy surroundings
  3. Assists the health care professional(s) with the acutely ill home care client (examples include: provision of comfort measures; basic vital signs; simple dressing)
  4. Assists in the orientation of a health care professional(s) in gaining comfort and understanding the customs of the Nisga'a people (includes language interpretation).
  5. Assists the health care professional(s) in providing health education and treatment  options to individual clients and their care givers to:


        a)Increase general health knowledge

        b)Promote client wellness and independence by teaching self-care skills

        c)Presents health care information to care-givers such as homemakers and family


    6. Assists the health care professional(s) in coordinating Home Care Nursing services with

those of community services through:


  • Providing information, advice   on services applicable to home care functions
  • Takes part as assigned, with health professionals in case/family conferences   in the home to chronic and


    7. Reports to the Home Care Nurse Manager or designate


    8. Performs other related duties as assigned (some examples include: prepares appropriate notices/articles for community awareness).


    9. Other duties as required by the needs of the organization.


  10. Adherence to NVHA quality assurance policies, processes and practices.


The position is in accordance with the HEU Collective Agreement. 

Qualifications & Experience 

  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License is Mandatory.
  • Current Certification as Health Care Assistant.
  • Travel as required between communities within the Nass Valley to provide client care or to attend meetings.
  • Transportation to/from centre’s is the responsibility of the worker.
  • Ability to work independently, and to work respectfully and cooperatively with clients and Health Care Team.
  • Skills and ability in interacting with others.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English both verbally and in writing
  • Communicates in a clear and practical manner both verbally and in writing 
  • Proficiency and aptitude with technical reporting and data administration tools, e.g. (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and other as may be required) relevant to the position and ability to operate office equipment
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Competence in skills and operation of equipment relating to patient care.
  • Valid CPR Level C Certification.
  • Food Safe Certification an asset.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • Knowledge of the Nisga’a Language and Culture would be an asset.
  • Current Criminal Records Check.
  • Adherence to NVHA quality assurance policies, processes and practices.
